Milford City Council approved two change orders related to the police evidence building under construction on the Milford Police Station property. When the original building was planned, the evidence building was not approved by council as then-Mayor Archie Campbell wanted to keep the cost of the project under $17 million. New rules regarding evidence collection as well as more responsibility for handling evidence that were previously handled by the state but now must be handled locally led to the need for the building.
“When they started work on the current pole barn, they found that there is additional work that needs to be done,” Chief Cecilia Ashe said. “The recommendation is for the entire roof to be replaced on the pole barn with a total cost of $13,219.”
Finance Director Lou Vitola stated that the change order would not impact the FY27 budget as there was $98,000 allocated in the general fund to cover these costs. We did get bond bill funding for the entire $98,000 and the low bid came in at $93,000, so we had a small buffer. While this will eat through all of the buffer, we still have the $98,000.”
Council approved the roof replacement unanimously.
The second change order was for $46,000 related to the cost of city permits obtained by Richard Y. Johnson & Son. Since they covered those costs, the city must reimburse them. That request was also approved unanimously.
