At a recent meeting, Milford Police Department Chief Cecilia Ashe informed Milford City Council the department would be purchasing 42 Stryker Physio-Control LIFEPAK CR2 AEDs from Rescue One. The cost of the AEDs is $99,999.90 and will be covered by grant funding.
“If you recall, several months ago, when we were approving the budget, Councilwoman Pletcher specifically requested us to try to do some additional research into how we could get these through grant money,” Ashe said. “We went back and reviewed some of our current grants that we have within the police department and I coordinated with Brian Jester to figure out how many the city actually needed to address this issue.”
After conducting the research, Ashe submitted an amendment to a federal grant which was approved to cover the cost of the AEDs.
“The goal is to put them in all city vehicles, in all city buildings,” Ashe said. “Then, of course, training of staff. So, this isn’t city funds that are being used, it is grant money, but due to the amount here, we wanted to bring it to council for approval.”
Ashe was asking for approval of the purchase of the 42 AEDs through the state contract with ten of them going to the police department and the remaining to public works for them to issue.
“This was just trying to make sure that the grant is helping the city as a whole and not just specifically the police department,” Ashe said.
Council approved the request for staff to begin procurement of the AEDs with a vote of 7 to 0.
