With the approval of the state budget this week, non-profits throughout the state will share $20 million through the Community Reinvestment Fund. The fund is designed to provide local non-profits with funding for projects that will improve the community. Ten of the non-profits are in the Milford area and six are Milford organizations.
The City of Harrington will receive $100,000 for various projects while the City of Milford will receive $200,000 for playground replacement. The Town of Bowers will receive $63,000 for drainage, road and parking lot improvements as well as road resurfacing. The Town of Felton will receive $95,416. Of that total, $22,476 will be for light towers, $7,510 will be for town hall upgrades and $65,430 for a Vactron Vacuum Excavation System. The Town of Greenwood will receive $65,000 for Greenwood park and playground revitalization.
Felton Little League will receive $179,700 for facility improvement and a safety upgrade project. The Music School of Delaware will receive $49,500 for concert hall, educational and technical upgrades.
Milford area non-profits who will benefit from the grants include Abbott’s Mill who will receive $150,000 for renovations to their nature center. Milford Housing Development Corporation was awarded $107,692 for the Milford Resilient Village and Riverwalk Community Initiative. The Riverwalk Villa project is designed to bring 27 new affordable townhomes and riverfront improvements to Milford.
Milford Senior Center received $100,000 for critical infrastructure improvements while People’s Place II was granted $100,000 for a comprehensive safety and security enhancement project.
Milford Historical Society was awarded $125,000 that will be used toward the completion of a new visitor center recently approved by City Council. Some of the funds will be to add ADA compliant features to the Parson Thorne Mansion.
The Community Reinvestment Fund provides funding that must be used for redevelopment, revitalization and investment in capital projects which will improve the economic, culture, historical and recreational health of Delaware communities.
