At a recent meeting, Milford City Council approved a shared-use path agreement with DelDOT that will be constructed from Milford Plaza Shopping Center to Buccaneer Boulevard. The shared-use path will be constructed along the east side of 113.
“This agreement is to work on the city’s infrastructure and when I say infrastructure, I mean water, sewer and electric,” City Manager Chris Coleman said. “This agreement is at no cost to the city and actually, the city will be reimbursed for a portion of the work that will be done by our electric department. That is estimated to be just over $4,000.”
Coleman explained that the work included adjusting utility boxes, some guy wires, removing one guy wire and running two span guy wires to two existing poles. It also covered providing a power source for four cabinets and adjusting wastewater manholes, adjusting some fire hydrants and adjusting some water valves.
“This is work that is primarily going to be done underground,” Coleman said. “There will be some electrical work that is the exception and this is part of the shared-use path.”
Councilwoman Katrina Wilson asked if this would include some safer street crossings.
“This does include pedestrian crossings at Milford Plaza Shopping Center, and they are making some pedestrian improvements on that side of the road as well,” City Planner Rob Pierce said. “It does go up to Buccaneer Boulevard and that does go east all the way up to the school property on Buccaneer Boulevard as well. It is a significant portion of shared-use path infill being constructed by the state.”
Council approved the mayor’s signature on the agreement with a vote of 7 to 0.
