The Milford Public Library has announced the start of its Centennial Transformation Project, a major renovation effort aimed at improving library services and upgrading the facility’s infrastructure.
Construction officially begins May 20 and is expected to continue through the end of August. The project includes replacing the building’s HVAC and electrical systems while making interior design changes intended to better support community programs and services.
As part of the work, the library’s management team will operate from the former storefront location at 10 SE Front Street, which will also serve as the project’s staging and construction area. Public mobilization activities for the project are expected to begin in mid-July.
During construction, several services will temporarily relocate within the library. Children’s programming and activities will continue in the upstairs Lions meeting room, while adult programs and events will move to the building’s downstairs meeting spaces. Access to library materials and resources will remain available through the library’s hold and reservation system, allowing patrons to request items online, by phone, or in person for pickup.
Library officials said the children’s area is expected to remain largely unaffected throughout construction, and families visiting the library should continue to find a welcoming environment.
“Our goal throughout this project is to maintain library services for the community while creating a safer, more modern, and more functional space for the future,” said Lea Rosell, Library Director. “We appreciate the public’s patience and support as we work through this exciting transformation.”
Some portions of construction may require temporary service interruptions or schedule changes. Residents are encouraged to visit milford.lib.de.us or follow the library on social media for updates on construction, programs, and services.
