Downtown Milford Inc. announced that the July 3 First Friday event, planned as a “Picnic in the Park” with live music, vendors and food trucks in Bicentennial Park will feature a finale that has not been seen in southern Delaware – a laser light show. The light show will feature a firework-style display without the loud noises. The event is planned from 4 to 9 PM with the light show beginning at dark.
“We have had multiple requests for fireworks to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the country,” Sade Truiett, Executive Director of Downtown Milford Inc., said. “Some of the members of our board felt we should consider something that is unique. We did some research and found a company that offers laser light shows. This will be an exciting, colorful finale for our First Friday event that we think everyone will love.”
In addition to being unique, Truiett pointed out that the laser light show was pet-friendly and would not be disruptive to those who suffer from sensory issues related to loud noises.
“We promote Milford as a dog-friendly, inclusive town,” Truiett said. “Our park is dog-friendly, and anyone is welcome to bring their four-legged family members with them to the event to enjoy the laser light show.”
Entertainment has not been finalized yet, but Downtown Milford Inc. hopes to announce a band line up very soon. Vendors will be on hand offering free giveaways, artisan crafts and more. There will also be food trucks with a variety of delicious options.
“We do need the public to assist us with this exciting new display,” Truiett said. “We have added a Light Show Donation button on our website and are asking anyone who can spare a few dollars to donate to the show. Any donation over $100 will be acknowledged at the event.”
The laser light show donation button can be found on the DMI website. Simply scroll down to the July First Friday section. Sponsorships are welcome and there are still vendor spots available. Businesses who are interested in sponsoring the laser light show should contact Truiett via email, by phone at 302-393-6808 or 302-839-1180, or stop in our office at 17 North Walnut Street, Milford.
