MHS Seniors Receive Awards

On Thursday, May 21, Milford High School Seniors were recognized at an awards ceremony. Students were recognized for their academic achievements while some were awarded scholarships from various organizations.

“We are here tonight with tremendous pride to recognize outstanding students,” Principal Seth Buford said. “The class of 2026 has continued to amaze us over the past four years, and you all have a bright future ahead of you.”

After the Milford High School Chamber Choir performed the National Anthem and a second song, Buford stated that not only would the student’s be recognized, but the evening gave the class a chance to recognize one staff member.

“This evening is not just an opportunity to highlight our senior’s academic leadership and device achievement, it’s also an opportunity for our seniors to highlight one staff member,” Buford said. “Each year, the Milford High School yearbook is dedicated to one staff member selected by the senior class in recognition of all the things this member has done to support the students and community this year. This year, the yearbook is dedicated to Lauren Vann.”

Awards were given for Academic Leadership in Honors Programs. Students receiving the awards had to have an “A” average in all Honors or Advanced Placement Courses related to the subject.

Receiving awards for Academic Leadership in English Language Arts were Lucy Chorman, Savannah Cowherd, Jacob Dickerson, Merary Haro-Purata, Ty Mackert, Levi Massotti, Erica Mollura, Anthony Nash, Landon Short, Madison Stahl, Olivia Tribbett, and Kenny Ung

Academic Leadership in Math awards were given to Isabel Betts, Savannah Cowherd, Zennaya Davis, Adrionna Fountain, Zoie Gray, Merary Haro-Purata, Erica Mollura, Anthony Nash, Marie Short, Madison Stahl, Olivia Tribbett, and Kenny Ung.

For Social Studies, the Academic Leadership Awards went to Lucy Chorman, Savannah Cowherd, Jacob Dickerson, Adrionna Fountain, Merary Haro-Purata, Levi Massotti, Erica Mollura, Anthony Nash, Alexander Sharkey, Landon Short, Marie Short, Madison Stahl, and Kenny Ung.

Academic Leadership Awards in Science were given to Savannah Cowherd, Levi Massotti, Erica Mollura, Anthony Nash, Madison Stahl, Olivia Tribbett, and Kenny Ung.

The Senior Excellence in Theatre Award was given to seniors who participated in at least three school productions. Winners of these awards were Samantha Altidor, Addison Brode, Giovanni Burgos, Charleen Chavez, Zachary Ferrer, Rimon Goodwin, Merary Haro-Purata, Jada Hooper, Trinity Hopkins, Michael McKain, Erica Mollura, Ashley St.Paul, Elliot Peel, Eli Rauch, Avery Richard, Myasia Satchell, Marie Short, and Bronx Stanfield.

The Academic Hall of Fame Award is given to students who were graduating with a GPA of 3.9 or higher. The DELLTA Amanda Sapp Parisi Award was given to Wolf Aures, Shamana Bataillie, Hemilie Lacroix and Noelia Lopez Chavez.

The Captain James H. Johnson Jr. Award for Outstanding Male Athlete went to Gregory Lockett. The Certificate of Multiliteracy – Gold Haitian Creole went to Kervens Joseph and Sophia Jean Baptiste. The Certificate of Multiliteracy – Gold Spanish was awarded to Kimberly Robledo-Jaimes.      The Daughters of the American Revolution History Award went to Erica Mollura. The Donald Lee Gibson Instrumental Musical Award went to Nolan Cohee. The Dr. G. W. Pleasanton Science Award was given to Anthony Nash.

First State Heritage Park awarded Aaron Parfitt for his work with the First State Heritage Park Club which encourages youth to engage in historical programs and events.The Jannie Martin Award, given to a student in special programs was given to Pedro Noriega-Garcia. The Kelly Tyrrell Gill Art Award went to Ash Miller.

Merchant Marine and 2025 graduate of Milford High School, Patrick Sharkey presented the Merchant Marine Academy Appointment to his brother, Alexander Sharkey.

The Milford High School English Award was presented to Lucy Chorman. The Milford High School Excellence Math Award was presented to Anthony Nash. The Milford High School Foreign Language Award went to Hillary Ledezma Cambronero. The Milford High School Leadership Award was presented to Merary Haro-Purata. The Milford High School Outstanding Mathematics Student Award was presented to Kenny Ung. The Milford High School Outstanding Senior Female Athlete Award went to Isabel Betts. The Milford High School Outstanding STEM Student Award was presented to Olivia Tribett.      The Milford High School Visual Art Award went to Samantha Gomez.

The ML Student Service Recognition Award was given to Davidson Victor. The MLL Department Award went to Yuleimi Velasquz Velasquez. The Outstanding Choral Award for Performance was given to Avery Richard. The Outstanding Choral Award for Service was given to Elliott Peel. The Outstanding Choral Student Award     went ot Avery Richard. The Outstanding Dramatic Art Student Award went to Merary Haro-Purata. The Robert Leigheiser Service Award was given to Kenny Ung.

The Secretary of Education Scholars were Madison Stahl and Kenny Ung. The Senior Excellence in Stage Management Theatre Award was presented to Kaycee Stevens-Brittingham. Winners of the Senior Excellence in Technical Theatre Award were Olivia Tribett and Gage Nordberg. The United States Marine Corp. Distinguished Athlete Award – Female was Madison Stahl and the United States Marine Corp. Distinguished Athlete Award – Male was James Sollie. Winner of the United States Marine Corp. Scholastic Excellence Award was Erica Mollura. Receiving the United States Marine Corp. Semper Fidelis Award (Music Award) was Anthony Nash.

Scholarships were also presented during the ceremony.

Lucy Chorman received the Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, V. George and Jeanette Carey, DSEA Chris Smith and Andrewville Ruritan Club Scholarships.

Sabrina Fleurentus was also a recipient of the Andrewville Ruritan Club Scholarship. Nathan Hague received the Dr. William Warren Rotary Scholarship and Eva Jester the Rylo Wagz Scholarship. Zi’Onna Mable was the recipient of the Brojora Foundation Historically Black College and University Scholarship.

Ty Mackert was awarded the Milford Elks Lodge #2401, Dr. William Warren Memorial, William F. Conway Memorial, David Taylor Memorial and Milford Lions Club Scholarships.

The recipient of the Barbara Kimmey Pierce Memorial Scholarship was Ania Matthews. Ursula
