If you are looking for fun things to do this week, the best place to go is the Milford Public Library. The library offers more than just books and other items to check out. They are also an activity center offering educational and fun programs for all ages. The first week of June is no exception!
On Monday, June 1, kick off the week at 5 PM with Crafts and Coffee. Bring knitting, a sketchbook or other project to join others for a sense of community and camaraderie. Craft supplies are not provided, but the coffee is.
Toddler Time is planned for Tuesday June 2 at 10:30 AM. Each session begins with a singing circle and ends with sensory bins, musical instruments or toddler-friendly toys.
Also, on June 2 at 4 PM, the third in the library series on the history of book banning will take place. This session is entitled “Why Can’t I Read That: 20th Century Book Banning.” The program is hosted by Dr. Cynthia Newton and there will be food, drinks and prizes.
Every Tuesday and Thursday at 3:15 PM, the library offers Chair Yoga which can be done seated or standing, using a chair for support. The program improves flexibility, concentration, balance and strength. It can also boost mood, reduce stress and alleviate joint strain. Registration is required and each class requires a separate registration.
Every Thursday is Children’s Story Time at 10:30 AM and 5:30 PM. This is an hour of singing, stories and crafts with each week showcasing a different theme.
On Wednesday, June 3 at 2:30 PM, join the library for Cardio Drumming, a type of exercise that uses drum movements. The exercise can be practiced by individuals of all ages, mobilities and restrictions. It does not require drumming experience but involves using drumsticks to hit an exercise ball placed on a bucket while listening to upbeat music. Registration is required.
Saturday, June 6 at 10 AM, a one-day-only pop-up sale is planned under the portico with books, jewelry, puzzles and more for just $1 per item. Cash is accepted for all purchases, but if you are using a credit card, there is a $2 minimum and if using a check, a $10 minimum.
The library reminds everyone that all teen programs are limited to students aged 12 to 18. If you cannot attend a program you have registered for, please cancel at least 24 hours in advance so your spot can be offered to someone on the waitlist. Missing two programs without notice may result in a temporary suspension of registration privileges.
The library also reminds everyone that the Centennial Transformation Project begins soon which may mean some service interruptions or temporary closures.
To register for any library program, visit their events page online.
