A celebration of remembrance and gratitude is planned for the Memorial Day Celebration, Monday, May 25 at 10 AM in the Gerald Thompson Center for Performing Arts at Milford High School. The event has become a Memorial Day tradition for many families.
“This meaningful event will honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nations,” a social media post by Representative Bryan Shupe read. “Residents, families, veterans and community leaders are encouraged to attend as Milford pauses to reflect on the true cost of freedom.”
The guest speaker for the event has not been confirmed. More details will be released closer to the ceremony.
The Memorial Day ceremony will feature special performances by the Milford Community Band, presenting official military branch songs and traditional military music. As part of the ceremony, volunteers will hand out poppies, a symbol honoring fallen military members. The program will also include presentations recognizing prisoners of war (POW), those missing in action (MIA) and Gold Star families, ensuring their sacrifice is never forgotten.
Retired Milford Police Captain Edward Huey will serve as emcee of the event which will include participation of the First State Military Academy, local Scout troops, and the Milford High School Interact Club, all performing different service roles.
“The Milford Memorial Day Ceremony stands as a solemn reminder of the courage, sacrifice and enduring legacy of those who gave their lives in service to our country,” Shupe’s social media post read.
