Art Journaling REVIVE, an eight-week series taught by Vanita Leatherwood, will be offered at the Milford Public Library starting at 10 AM on April 10. The program is for those 55 and older.
“This program explores art in many forms,” Leah Rosell, Executive Director of the library, said. “At the end of the series, there is an art showcase as well.”
Art journaling is a creative practice that combines imagery, words and color. It is a personal, no pressure way to experiment with a variety of techniques, colors, images, patterns, words and ideas, making it fun and relaxing.
“Activities will include the exploration of collage forms, playing with various materials, practicing with prompts, and the sharing of ideas and experiences,” Rosell said. “Participants experience art making as a well-being activity that helps them connect with their feelings. It also helps you connect with others through art making and sharing.”
Participants learn about materials, including tools, mediums, papers, inks, paints and more. They also learn how symbols can be used in art making, how to prep journal pages and to create journal pages with the help of prompts like music and poetry. Instruction is also given in how to create collage papers.
“This program is part of our Creative Aging series and is supported, fully, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts,” Rosell said. “We are happy to partner with a state agency working in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and one that promotes Delaware arts events.”
The series will be held April 10, 17, 24, May 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 from 10 AM to Noon in Lions Room B at the Milford Public Library. Registration is required and, although the series is currently full, a waiting list has been established.
