Downtown Milford, Inc., in partnership with the City of Milford and several community organizations, will host the city’s 4th Annual Juneteenth Celebration on Friday, June 19, at Bicentennial Park.
The event will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will feature live entertainment, food vendors, cultural presentations, youth activities, local organizations, and educational programming focused on African American history, heritage, and freedom.
Organizers say the annual event continues to grow each year as the Milford community comes together to recognize the significance of Juneteenth while promoting unity, reflection, and celebration.
Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the day Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, and informed enslaved African Americans that they were free which was more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. The holiday has long been celebrated within African American communities and officially became a federal holiday in 2021.
Downtown Milford officials said this year’s celebration will continue the tradition of blending education, culture, music, and community engagement in a family-friendly atmosphere.
The organization is currently seeking food vendors, general vendors, nonprofit participants, sponsors, and community partners for the event. Vendor applications must be submitted by June 5, and participants are expected to provide their own tents, tables, and chairs.
Several sponsorship opportunities are also available to help support event programming, entertainment, stage production, youth activities, marketing, and outreach efforts.
Last year’s Juneteenth celebration drew large crowds to Bicentennial Park and featured live performances, community speakers, cultural exhibits, food vendors, and educational presentations. According to previous coverage by Milford Times, speakers during the 2025 event included local community leaders, clergy members, and representatives discussing African American history, equality, and the continuing importance of preserving the meaning of Juneteenth.
The 2025 celebration also included spoken word performances, music, community fellowship, and educational materials highlighting the historical importance of emancipation and civil rights. Community organizations and churches throughout the Milford area participated in the event, helping expand both attendance and programming.
Organizers say partnerships with local nonprofits, churches, businesses, and civic groups continue to play an important role in the event’s growth each year.
The Juneteenth celebration is part of Downtown Milford’s ongoing efforts to strengthen community engagement and cultural programming within the city’s downtown district.
