Horror fans will once again have the chance to experience a unique blend of classic monster movies, live theater and audience participation when Mr. Moribund’s Theatre of Terror returns to the Riverfront Theatre for its annual Summer Screamer Show on July 31 and Aug. 1.
This year’s production features the 1959 horror film The Alligator People, starring Beverly Garland, Bruce Bennett and Lon Chaney Jr., but organizers say the biggest attraction may be what happens off the movie screen.
For the first time in the show’s history, audience members will determine the ending of the performance.
“This show will be another first for us,” said creator and performer W.J. Walton. “This particular show will have two possible endings, which will be determined by popular vote from the audience. In this one, Mr. Moribund finds himself accused of a crime and must go before a judge and jury to decide his fate.”
Walton said members of the show’s loyal fan base, affectionately known as the “Moribunch,” will serve as the jury and decide the outcome during each performance.
“This show was written by my daughter Nolah, who performs as Cadavera the Clown,” Walton said. “It is her second time writing our script for us, and we’re all very excited about it.”
Beyond the feature presentation, audiences can expect an evening filled with live comedy, music, audience participation and family-friendly entertainment. The production also includes costume contests for both children and adults, raffle prizes, and vendors in the theater lobby before the show begins.
The popular raffle will once again benefit True Colors, an organization that supports homeless LGBTQ+ youth. Attendees will have the opportunity to win one of the show’s signature Mr. Moribund cereal boxes filled with prizes, along with gifts donated by local businesses.
Doors open at 7 p.m., and both performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 per person and will be available only at the door.
Mr. Moribund’s Theatre of Terror has been entertaining audiences at Milford’s Riverfront Theatre since 2015. Inspired by the classic horror-host television programs that aired throughout the 1950s and beyond, each production combines a vintage horror film with original comedy sketches, live music, audience games and interactive performances. Guests can also enjoy craft vendors and the show’s free “haunted” library before taking their seats for an evening of monsters, laughs and old-fashioned movie magic.
