Milford School District announced that Dina Scardamalia has been named the new principal of Milford High School. Scardamalia will replace Seth Buford who will assume new duties with the district as of July 1.
“I knew Milford was the right place for me when I came for the interview,” Scardamalia said. “I loved the town, the energy of the school, and the dedication I saw from those involved in the selection process. I left feeling excited about the possibility of becoming a Buccaneer.”
Scardamalia comes to Milford following a distinguished career in public education in Texas, bringing a wealth of experience in instructional leadership, special education and community building. Her journey in education began as an educational assistant in middles chool, where she supported a student with complex physical disabilities.
“That experience sparked a passion for special education that shaped the next nine years of my career,” Scardamalia said. “As a resource and inclusion teacher for science, social studies and math, I learned that the strongest academic outcomes happen when schools and families function as true partners.”
Scarmadalia transitioned to administration at her alma mater, serving as assistant principal. The experience reinforced her belief in the power of community, tradition and alumni connections. Most recently, she spent 13 years as principal of Kelly Lane Middle School in Texas, focusing on building collaborative leadership teams and creating opportunities for student success.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Rhetorical Communications and Political Science from the University of Pittsburgh and a Master of Education in Educational Administration from the University of Texas at Austin.
“I want to know the faculty and staff as individuals and as educators,” Scardamalia stated as she prepares for her role. “Building relationships will be my first priority. I want to learn what has made Milford such a special place. From there, we can determine our needs and the path forward together.”
Scardamalia is also eager to support students as they prepare for life after graduation.
“Students are at the heart of any school,” she said. “My priority is to provide clear expectations and opportunities for success. We will celebrate our wins together and work to improve ourselves whenever we fall short of our goals. I am deeply committed to ensuring every student is ready for their post-high school journey, whatever path they choose.”
Scardamalia is the parent of two young adults, giving her a firsthand look at every student’s journey through public education as unique. She is committed to helping every Buccaneer identify and pursue their own path to success.
Outside of the school building, Scardamalia enjoys crafting, traveling to national parks and listening to audiobooks. A former sailor, she is excited to explore Delaware’s waterways and become part of the Milford community.
