Shirley B. Glanden, 73, of Milford, passed away on March 8, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born April 10, 1952, at Milford Hospital, she was the daughter of William Brittingham and Alice (Powell) Brittingham of Felton. Glanden graduated near the top of the inaugural class of Lake Forest High School in 1970 and went on to build a long and respected career with the Delaware Bankers Association. Over the years, she became a well-known and trusted presence among banking leaders and members of Delaware’s congressional delegation.
Glanden was also deeply involved in her community, including many years of service with Felton United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir. She had a passion for travel, visiting destinations such as Greece, Italy, Spain, Bermuda, and Hawai’i. Closer to home, she especially enjoyed time spent in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley hiking and horseback riding, as well as sailing on the Chesapeake Bay and attending horse races at Delaware Park.
Friends and family remember her most for the joy she found in spending time with her grandchildren.
Glanden is survived by her sisters Joyce Welsh (Joe Keyes) and Patricia Robinson (Jim), and her brother Bill Brittingham (Lisa); her twin sons, Mark M. Glanden (Annie) and Matthew B. Glanden (Amy); her sister-in-law Beverly Coverdale; nieces Amanda Wright (Brian) and Ashley Brittingham; nephew Billy Brittingham (Jessica); her partner Ed Starr and his sons Chris Starr (Lauren) and Jeff Starr (Kaoru); and eight grandchildren: Adeline, Emma, Hannah, Sam, Sydney, Olivia, River, and Siera.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Charles “Del” Glanden, as well as brother-in-law Steve Oldham, brother-in-law Albert “Bud” Coverdale, and niece Carrie Coverdale.
