One of the most unique fundraisers in Milford, Hippiefest, sponsored by the Milford Museum, was a huge success on Saturday, August 15. The lawn of Causey Mansion was filled with people dressed in their best tie-dye and bell bottoms, dancing to the sounds of The Funsters and Dana McDonald.
“This event began as a tribute to the 50th anniversary of Woodstock,” Tom Summers, who recently resigned as Executive Director for the Milford Museum, said. “The first event was held in 2019, and we sold out of tickets almost immediately. The feedback we got was that people felt this was one of the most fun events they had attended in a long time. We knew we needed to keep it going and, for the past seven years the community did not disappoint us!”
Guests were asked to dress in their favorite 60s attire, although costumes were not required to attend. However, almost everyone who was at the event was clad in tie-dye, fringe, headbands and peace symbols.
“We could not do this without our team of volunteers,” Summers said. “They worked tirelessly to make sure things went smoothly. We will begin planning next year’s event very soon and we welcome anyone who is interested in volunteering to assist with this very popular event. This event was so popular we were fielding phone calls about tickets right up until the gates opened. We really encourage people to purchase tickets early to this as they do sell very quickly.”
Social media was filled with comments about how much fun the event was. Kathy Quillen Bunting commented that it was a “great time, great music.” Kathleen Samler-Turner posted that she and her friends had fun.
Anyone who is interested in volunteering for this event next year or any other event that helps further the Milford Museum’s mission, contact the new Milford Museum Executive Director, Larry Josefowski at director@milforddemuseum.org or give them a call at 302-424-1080.
