Recently, the Town of Ellendale reminded citizens of several ordinances that could impact residents. In addition, they announced an initiative to pay bills electronically as well as election information.
“Grass/weeds cannot be above six inches, or you will be in violation,” the notice read. “It is unlawful in the State of Delaware to sweep, rake, blow or otherwise place yard waste in a roadway. Parking is not permitted on the grass in front of any residence, including the strip between the road and the sidewalk. Vehilces cannot block any portion of the sidewalk. No inoperative or unlicensed motor vehicles can be parked on any property unless it is kept within a structure or enclosed area.”
In addition, all dogs must be kept on a leash and no pets are allowed in the town park at any time. Golf carts must follow all state regulations.
“Ellendale has a curfew,” the notice continued. “No person under the age of 18 years shall be out on the streets or public areas of town between the hours of 10 PM and 6 AM.”
Ellendale is also encouraging residents to provide email and cell phone numbers in order for town leaders to provide more timely and useful communication.
“This would become a two-way street of communication for asking questions and receiving feedback about activities in our community,” the town said. “We would also like to encourage electronic billing payments and newsletter mailings.”
According to town leaders, there are two council seats up for election. The seats are for two-year terms. The town would like to see more people get involved in the community. Town council meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 7 PM at the Ellendale Volunteer Fire Department.
The Little Library has been installed next to Town Hall, allowing citizens to “have a book, leave a book, need a book, take a book.” If the library is full, the town asks that books be taken to Town Hall during business hours so they can be stored until needed.
“Thank you to the Brittingham, Ottomano and Webb families for donating the Little Library,” the town said.
