Second Street Players has announced the cast for their spring production “Steel Magnolias.” Written by Robert Harling, the play was inspired by real-life events of Susan Herling-Robinson, his sister.
The story is set in Louisiana with the ladies who are “anybody” visiting Truvy’s beauty salon. The role of Truvy will be played by Lori Ann Johnson. Annelle, Truvy’s assistant, will be played by Kori Lewandowski. Truvy not only does hair, but provides advice to the town’s rich curmudgeon, Ouiser, played by Cheryl Graves, along with Miss Clairee, played by Gina Shuck, an eccentric millionaire. Another customer, M’Lynn, played by Cat Baker, is the local social leader and her daughter, Shelby, played by Abbie Porter, is about to marry a “good ole boy.”
The beloved story is filled with humor, verbal repartee, love and loss as the ladies are confronted with their own mortality while drawing strength and love from each other. The play will be directed by Becky Craft and assistant director, Glen Pruitt.
Performances will be at Riverfront Theater, 2 South Walnut Street in Milford. Shows are planned for May 9, 10, 11 as well as May 16, 17 and 18. Friday and Saturday shows begin at 7 PM and Sunday shows begin at 2 PM. Tickets are $27 with a $2 discounts available to students, seniors and SSP members.
