At a recent meeting, Sussex County Council approved a conditional use request from Brian P. Lessard to add 41 RV parking spaces to his existing mini storage facility in Argo’s Corner. The county Planning and Zoning Commission approved the request.
“In 2018, the county approved a conditional use for a self-storage facility on Argo’s Corner Road across from Taylor Marine Center, just south of Milford,” Jim Fuqua, who represented the applicant, said. “The facility was constructed, it opened for business and it has been operating very successfully for several years now.”
At the time the original conditional use was approved, Lessard requested 80 parking spaces for the storage of larger vehicles such as RVs, campers and boat trailers.
“There has been a greater demand than anticipated for RV storage spaces and there is a significant waiting list if this application is approved,” Fuqua said. “We are requesting approval of 41 additional spaces, raising it from 80 to 121. The new spaces would be located as an extension of the existing spaces, running along the fence line of the facility with some on Argo’s Corner Road and others along Route 1.”
Fuqua explained that the spaces are outside the setback and would not interfere with vehicle movement on the site. There were no objections expressed at the Planning and Zoning meeting. Fuqua pointed out that many developments with HOA regulations did not allow residents to park larger vehicles at their homes which has led to a need for additional storage options.
There was a public hearing held at the Sussex County Council meeting. No one spoke for or against the request. The application was approved unanimously.
