A Multi-Cultural Wellness Fair is planned for Saturday, April 25 from 10 AM to 2 PM at the Bayhealth Blue Hen Corporate Center. The event will include education, free screenings and more.
At this event, attendees will receive assistance in scheduling annual mammograms, domestic violence resources and early intervention services. Mexican Consulate identification and travel documents services will also be available by appointment.
Education services include information on breast and mental health, substance abuse, nutrition, diabetes management, Naloxone training, problem gambling and more. Participating community organizations include Bayhealth, Women of Color Task Force, Delaware Health and Human Services, Food Bank of Delaware, YWCA of Delaware, Rockford Center, Quality Insights, Nurses & Neighbors, Neighborhood Good Partners, Mental Health Association of Delaware, Marigold Health, Westside Family Healthcare, Prevention Promoters, HOY en Delaware and more.
Free screenings include a pre-clinical breast examination, blood pressure, lead and glucose. In addition, there are plenty of fun activities planned to include face painting for children, vendors, prizes, giveaways and Martha’s Ice Cream and Treats.
The breast examinations are free and are considered one of the most crucial early screenings for breast cancer, significantly enhancing the likelihood of detecting the disease in its early stages. After the examination, provided by Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition and the Milford State Service Center, assistance is provided in scheduling a mammogram. Registration for the free examination is required.
Support will be available in Spanish and Creole at the event. To register for breast screenings, call 302-893-8058 or send an email to Yirann Marti. For more information about the health fair, contact Lourdes “Ivy” Maldonado by calling 302-943-0054 or sending an email.
