Additional details regarding this incident are still emerging. As new information is released, Milford Times will edit the story to reflect those details.

At around 4:15 AM, first responders were notified of a fire alarm at Lulu M. Ross Elementary School in Milford. Upon arrival, fire officials discovered fire and smoke which caused significant damage to a large portion of the main lobby, library, front offices and several classrooms in both the main hallways and the center of the school.
“The cause of the fire has not been determined, but the state Fire Marshall’s office is currently on site assessing the situation and will provide updates as they make this determination,” Public Information Officer Trish Gerken said. “Our district crisis team will be meeting this morning to begin planning our short-term and long-term responses, including what teaching and learning will look like for the staff and students at Ross.”

Gerken stated that families and community members will be provided more details as they become available.

“We know there will be a lot of questions, and we will work diligently to provide answers as we learn more throughout the day and beyond,” Gerken said. “We ask our community to keep or students, parents and employees of Lulu Ross in your thoughts and prayers as there will be difficult times ahead as we come to the realization of how significant this truly is.”
Gerken thanked those who have already reached out with support and offers for help and to the first responders for their work on the scene this morning, many putting their own lives in danger.
“The strength of our Milford Community is second to none,” Gerken said. “I know we will have the support needed to get through this together.”
Milford Times is continuing to reach out to those involved for more information and will update this story as details emerge.
