Milford City Council approved a request from Joseph Wolf, owner of property at 600 Dixie Alley, for a temporary sidewalk waiver for a new home he is constructing on the property. Wolf has already constructed one home on the property and a second is proposed.
“There is currently no curbing or sidewalks available along the entire roadway,” City Planner Rob Pierce said. “There is a stipulation that if the city deems it necessary that sidewalks be installed at a later date, we would give the owner notice and he would have to install them.”
Wolf spoke to council and explained that Dixie Alley was not a very wide street and that there were currently no sidewalks there. Sidewalks end at McCoy Avenue and Delaware Avenue.
The request was subject to public comment, but no one spoke up for or against the application.
Council approved the request with a vote of seven to one as Councilwoman Madula Kalesis was absent. When making her motion, Councilwoman Katrina Wilson commented on the request.
“Normally, I am a stickler for sidewalks, especially in new developments,” Wilson said. “But there are no sidewalks there now and, hopefully, in the future, you will be prepared to add a sidewalk when other neighbors become adjacent to you.”
