The 10th Annual Baltimore Birding Weekend is set to take place May 8–10, 2026, offering birding enthusiasts a full schedule of guided excursions across the Baltimore area.
The annual event will feature a wide range of field trips, including guided hikes through city parks, visits to unique natural habitats, and access to locations not typically open to the public. Organizers say the weekend is designed for birders of all experience levels, combining education, exploration, and community engagement.
Last year’s event saw participants identify a combined total of 147 bird species across all sites, including notable sightings such as Baltimore Orioles and Common Ravens.
In addition to recreation, the event continues to support wildlife conservation efforts. Organizers donated $1,000 from the 2025 event to the Phoenix Wildlife Center, a nonprofit focused on rehabilitating native wildlife and educating the public. A similar donation is planned for 2026.
According to the event schedule, morning trips will be a central feature of the weekend, offering early access to prime birding locations when activity is at its peak. These excursions include visits to a variety of ecosystems such as urban green spaces, waterfront areas, forested habitats, and protected sites. Some trips will focus on specific bird populations or habitats, while others provide broader opportunities to observe migratory and resident species.
Participants can expect expert-led outings that highlight both common and rare species, with guides providing insight into bird behavior, identification, and local ecology.
Costs for the excursions are $30. No cancellations are accepted after April 25, 2026. Trips go rain or shine unless torrential rains or dangerous conditions prevent the group from viewing wildlife. If a trip is cancelled, attendees are notified via email. Please note that the email will be sent to all participants BCC, so be sure to check SPAM folders. A full refund will be provided within 15 days.
