Tony Lee Hudson of Georgetown passed away January 10 surrounded by his loving family. He was 63.
Tony was born in Salisbury, Maryland, to the late George Hudson and Delores Kissinger Welch.
With $500 he borrowed from a friend, Tony opened Tony Hudson’s Garage in 1986, growing it into a repair shop that demonstrated integrity, skill and pride in doing things the right way. The journey for him was not easy, but it was honest and it became source of inspiration to those who knew him.
Tony developed a reputation for rebuilding automatic transmissions, but what he built was more than a business. It was a legacy of resilience, dedication and trust that he earned. His hands were rarely still and his dedication to his craft was matched only by his willingness to help others. He was the kind of man who would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need, never hesitating to lend a hand, share his time or offer his support.
Outside of work, Tony embraced life with enthusiasm. He had a lifelong love of softball and proudly ran his own team for years, building not just a roster of players, but lasting friendships. He cherished the outdoors, spending much of his free time fishing, hunting, skiing and days at the beach. Some of the happiest memories were made during the many summers he spent in Chincoteague, a place that held a special place in his heart.
Music was another great passion, and he loved listening to music and playing the drums. Some of his favorite moments were spent late into the night, sitting in his garage, listening to his son and friends play live music. Those evenings were filled with laughter, rhythm and the simple joy of being together.
Above all, Tony knew no stranger and loved hard. His presence was steady, his laughter genuine and his generosity boundless. He will be remembered not only for what he did, but for how he was and the countless lives he touched.
Condolences on his memory wall were short and sweet.
“RIP brother,” Jeff Collins sad. “You will be missed.”
Mike Clark thanked Tony for his friendship while Mike Hudson pointed out that Tony would be missed by many and hoping his cousin would rest in peace.
“RIP,” Jim Papa said. “You saved many vacations for me. Thank you.”
Tony was preceded in death by his father, George, and his brothers, Steve and Robert.
He is survived by his loving mother, Delores Welch; his beloved son, Chad (Nina) Hudson; his sisters, Terry (Brian) Komlo and Tammy (Mark) Tisher. Tony was blessed and will be missed by his three grandchildren, Capri and Jonah Hudson along with Izabella Martinez. He is also survived by his nieces who he loved early.
A funeral service will be held at noon on Saturday, January 17 at Short Funeral Services Inc. sanctuary, 609 E. Market Street, Georgetown. Family and friends may visit beginning at 10 AM. Interment will be in St. John’s Church Cemetery, Springfield Crossroads, Georgetown. Pastor Duane Smith will officiate.
