Carlisle Fire Company provided Milford City Council with an update for March, noting that calls were down for the month. They also reported that the substation project was on target.
“For the month of March, we had 76 fire emergencies for the month of March, 46 of them were within city limits,” Chief Brennon Fountain said. “There were 27 in Sussex County and 54 in Kent County. Again, our automatic alarms that we have in our commercial businesses and our residential settings led the way with 23 out of the 76 calls. As of March 31, we have had 251 alarms year to date.”
As for EMS emergencies, there were 440 in March with 353 within city limits. There were 361 in Sussex and 79 in Kent. Some of the calls ended up with patients refusing treatment, so actual transports were 332. There were 92 that were inter-facility transfers.
“With Polaris and the Banyan Treatment Center on Clarke Street, we are really expecting things to ramp up over there,” Fountain said. “That is one of our biggest areas of concern in terms of response.”
Carlisle Fire Company planned to move into the new substation the weekend of April 17. The company is also still on track with the EMS quarters which was awaiting permitting. The company placed a new traffic control device into service March 30, giving the fire police three vehicles to provide safety and assist with traffic control.
“We were able to hire our new EMS supervisor who brings a wealth of knowledge to Carlisle Fire Company,” Fountain said. “His name is Christopher Clough, and he is currently the fire chief at Felton Community Fire Department.”
Carlisle Fire Company will report to council again in May.
