Sylvan Learning Centers, a trusted name in supplemental education since 1979, is expanding its footprint in Delaware with the opening of a new location in Milford. The new center builds on the success of Sylvan Learning of Lewes, which opened in September 2020, and continues the company’s mission to help students build academic confidence and master essential skills.
“Our model emphasizes small-group instruction,” said Jason Blanshine, Center Director for Sylvan of Lewes. “We focus on helping children gain mastery in reading, writing, mathematics, and study skills. At Sylvan, our mission is to build academic confidence, personalize learning, and combine great teachers with great technology.”
The decision to open a new center in Milford came naturally for the owner, who has deep ties to the community.
“I decided on opening a center in Milford because I had taught at Milford High School for several years and the community has always been one that I appreciate,” Blanshine said. “Milford School District worked with us very early on, and we’re always looking to continue to build relationships with schools in the area.”
The location also serves a strategic purpose.
“Milford serves as a bridge between Sussex and Kent Counties,” Blanshine added. “We’ve had families come to our Lewes location from areas even further north and west of Milford, so this new center will make Sylvan more accessible to many of those families.”
In addition to Sylvan’s core academic programs, the new Milford location will also introduce Snapology of Milford, an innovative educational franchise under the same ownership. Snapology focuses on STEM and STEAM learning through hands-on, play-based programs for children and even adults.
“Snapology’s mission is to build creativity, problem-solving, teamwork, and critical thinking skills,” Blanshine explained. “We’ll be offering school’s-out programs, birthday parties, and summer camps that make learning exciting and interactive.”
