
If you are looking for a way to entertain the children before school starts or simply want to learn more about nature, Killen’s Pond State Park has options available for the rest of August. Whether you want to learn more about the wildlife that call this area home or enjoy a fun wagon ride through the forest, the park has an option.
On August 16, take a night hike and learn more about these “masters of the night.” The program, which begins at 8:15 PM, is about one and a half miles and registration is required. Once registered, visitors will receive information about where to meet. The cost is $8 per person and park entrance fees are still in effect.
Owls continue to be the focus with “Know it Owls” on Sunday, August 17 at 11 AM. This program is located at the nature center where you can come test your knowledge about these unique creatures. The program is free although you must pay for park entrance and registration is required.
August 30 will feature two public wagon rides through the park, one from 5 to 6 PM and the second from 6 to 7 PM. This is a 40-minute trip around the fields and forests of the park. Bring your own blankets as there will not be hay on this ride. The program is weather permitting, and registration is required. The cost is $7 per person and registration ends 22 hours before the ride.
If you have ever wanted to explore the pond with your child, Sunday, August 31 has the program you have been looking for as they offer an Adult and Child Kayak Paddle. Prepare t get wet as you travel around the pond, learning more about the history and environment that surrounds it. Closed-toe shoes are required, and adults must be 18+ who are comfortable paddling with a child. All tickets are for a two-person kayak that will be shared. The program is weather permitting and costs $35 per tandem kayak. Registration is required and ends 22 hours before the event.
