Delmarva Birding Weekends announced the Harriet Tubman Tours River City Cruise with birding along the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Byway in Caroline County, Maryland.
This is guided, self-driven tour, where attendees can learn about the many daring escapes led by the famed freedom seeker and human rights activist known as the “Moses of her People.” Tubman found shelter and assistance as she traveled along the Underground Railroad in Caroline County on the way to Delaware.
The driving route runs through farms, forests and the many Underground Railroad sites of Caroline County. The tour explores the upper reaches of the Choptank River in Denton aboard a two-hour cruise on a pontoon boat. Downriver, there are several landing sites where landings and points along the Choptank locations were where Tubman and her followers escaped by boat. The shallow waters of the Upper Choptank provided by crossings for freedom seekers heading north toward Sandtown, Delaware.
Tours are available Tuesday, September 22 and Wednesday, October 7. The cost is $100 per person and there are 10 persons required for each tour.
