The Milford Public Library Centennial Transformation project is underway with plans for a full HVAC replacement, upgraded electrical systems, interior space reconfiguration, new bathrooms, new study rooms and renovated finishes throughout. The upgrades will celebrate the 100th year of the library.
“We appreciate the patience and support of the community as we begin this project,” Lea Rosell, Executive Director said. “We look forward to our grand reopening in June 2027 right in time for our centennial celebration.”
Starting this month, an ADA access ramp will be constructed at the meeting room entrance along Southeast Front Street along with the placement of a construction dumpster and portable restroom in the main library parking lot along Washington Street. The dumpster will be used as part of the demolition process.
“Most library services will relocate to the large meeting room downstairs, commonly known as the Smith Room,” Rosell said. “Patrons will enter and exit through the portico doors. Meetings for teens and adults will take place in the Lions Club meeting rooms.”
New releases, magazines, newspapers and bestsellers will be available for browsing and check out in the Smith Room. Main collection items will need to be placed on hold for pickup, similar to the library’s COVID protocols. Public computers and printing services will be available in the Smith Room.
“The Children’s Wing will be largely unaffected,” Rosell said. “Library patrons will access the children’s wing through a secondary entrance. All adult and teen programs occurring after July 27, 2026, will require registration.”
The Milford Public Library is an independent, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization not fully funded by any government source, raising nearly 20 percent of its operating income in fiscal year 2026.
