The City of Milford has announced changes to the construction schedule for its 2025 Street Rehabilitation Project while also reminding residents of a limited-time opportunity to earn money by recycling old appliances.
City officials said the construction schedule has been revised because of a utility conflict on Wilbur Street.
Beginning Monday, July 20, construction crews began curb, sidewalk and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) crosswalk improvements along East Street. As work progresses, the East Street entrance and exit to Riverwalk Plaza will be temporarily closed. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate access points and follow all posted detour signs while construction is underway.
The project will then move to N.E. 8th Street beginning Monday, July 27, where crews will continue concrete improvements. Milling and paving operations on Salevan Place are also scheduled to begin during the same week.
Electronic message boards will remain in place throughout the project to provide motorists with updates on traffic impacts, road closures and construction progress.
The rehabilitation project is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to improve Milford’s transportation infrastructure by upgrading roadways, sidewalks and pedestrian accessibility.
City officials thanked residents for their patience and cooperation as construction continues throughout the rehabilitation project and encouraged motorists to plan ahead when traveling through work zones.
In addition to the construction updates, Milford electric customers are encouraged to take advantage of Efficiency Smart’s Appliance Recycling Rewards Program, which has returned for a limited time.
Through Sept. 30, eligible residents can schedule a free pickup of working refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers or window air conditioning units and receive $75 for each appliance that is responsibly recycled. Window air conditioning units can receive up to $150. Households may recycle up to four qualifying appliances per year.
To participate, residents must be customers of a participating electric utility and meet the program’s eligibility requirements.
