Delaware State Police arrested Jaquell McDonald, 31, of Lincoln, for felony charges following a pursuit and crash that occurred on Sunday afternoon near Milton.
On September 13, at approximately 1:35 PM, a trooper saw a Maserati Levante speeding northbound on Coastal Highway near Deep Branch Road. The trooper attempted to pull over the vehicle, but it sped away. During the pursuit, the Maserati drove recklessly at a high rate of speed on Coastal Highway and several area roads, ultimately coming to a stop after colliding with a Nissan Rogue at Union Street Extended and Coastal Highway.
After the collision, the driver, later identified as McDonald, ran away and was seen discarding over 60 grams of cocaine. He was captured and taken into custody without incident. During the search of the Maserati, troopers found over 46 grams of marijuana, $5,696 in suspected drug proceeds and fake driver’s licenses from Arizona and Nevada.
The driver and passenger of the Nissan, a 65-year-old man and 61-year-old woman from Pennsylvania, had minor injuries but refused transport to the hospital. The roadway was closed for an extended time while the scene was investigated and cleared.
McDonald was taken to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. After being released, he was taken to Troop 7 where he was charged with possession wit intent to deliver a controlled substance, tier 3 quantity; possession of a controlled substance, tier 3 quantity; possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance; attempted to commit tampering with physical evidence or evidence suppression; disregarding a police officer’s signal; vehicular assault, third degree; possession of drug paraphernalia and multiple pursuit and crash related traffic violations.
McDonald was arraigned by Justice of the Peace and committed to the Department of Corrections on $75,514 cash bond.
