Frank J. Dzierzanowski, a U.S. Army veteran, accomplished chemist, and longtime community member, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2026, at TidalHealth in Seaford. He was 96.
Born August 28, 1929, in Plains, Pennsylvania, Dzierzanowski was the son of the late Mary (Kubow) and Alex Dzierzanowski. He graduated from Plains High School in 1947 before serving his country as a Medical Laboratory Technician in the United States Army. Following his military service, he pursued higher education and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Rutgers University in 1956.
In 1954, he married Violet (Levay) Dzierzanowski, his wife of 66 years, and together they raised their family in Somerset, New Jersey. The couple later relocated to Delaware in 2019.
Dzierzanowski built a distinguished career in research with Engelhard Corporation, where he worked for 36 years before retiring in 1992. His work contributed to numerous patents used in the production of gasoline and other commercial products. Toward the end of his career, he led a material characterization group whose research supported industries including paint, paper, and catalysts.
He was also active in several professional organizations, including the Clay Minerals Society, the Catalyst Society of America, TAPPI, and the American Chemical Society, reflecting his dedication to scientific advancement and collaboration.
Outside of his professional life, Dzierzanowski was deeply involved in his church community. While living in New Jersey, he was an active member of Our Lady of Mercy Church, where he served as president of the Holy Name Society in the Diocese of Metuchen. He also played a key role in church fundraising efforts and was instrumental in the restoration of the church’s roof.
Family members remember him as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who valued both his faith and his family.
He is survived by his son, Wayne Dzierzanowski; his daughter, Diane D’Ardenne and her husband John; and three grandchildren, Luke Dzierzanowski and his significant other Valery, David D’Ardenne, and Emily D’Ardenne.
Entombment will be held privately in New Jersey.
