What began as a dream for Zack King in 2016, a distillery and brewpub in Milford, launched a dynasty that has grown significantly over the past 10 years. King and his wife, Marissa, grew EasySpeak Distilling and Brewpub into a popular eatery on Milford-Harrington Highway with wood-fired pizza, burger nights and crafted liquors.
The couple sold the restaurant last month and, although the names of the new owners have not yet been revealed, the King’s are grateful for the support they received from the community from the day the doors opened.
“After nine incredible years, it is time for us to pass the torch to an amazing family who is dedicated to preserving the EasySpeak tradition while continuing to serve the community we have come to love,” Marissa posted on social media when they announced the sale. “To everyone who has supported EasySpeak over the years, thank you, truly. Whether you joined us for dinner, drinks, live music or special celebrations, you’ve helped make this place what it is today. Zack and I have met most of our nearest and dearest friends within these four walls. We’ve celebrated babies, marriages, birthdays and life celebrations with you all.”
The King’s, who also recently sold fondue, made the decision to step away from the restaurant industry to spend more time with their two daughters.
“While it is bittersweet, we know EasySpeak is in great hands and we are so excited to enjoy it from the other side of the bar and out of the kitchen,” Marissa said. “We’re extremely excited for the new owners and this next chapter.”
Some of the staff will continue working for the new owners, but the distillery portion of the restaurant has closed permanently.
The restaurant held a grand opening in December 2017. Over the years, they have held many fundraisers and events that supported the community. The couple also purchased the Penny Square building, the former M&T Bank building, the TC Collins building, the former Derrickson’s Clothing Store building and the Rickards-Pierce Building downtown. All of the historic buildings owned by the Kings have undergone extensive renovations.
More information will be provided about the new owners and their plan for EasySpeak once they have settled into their role as restaurant owners.
