A Bridgeville man was arrested on felony firearm and related offenses when he illegally entered a barn and threatened people with a firearm in Felton.
On September 17, at approximately 11:40 PM, John Baker, 55, who was described as intoxicated, entered a barn located on Black Swamp Road and became involved in a verbal dispute with one of the victims. The confrontation turned physical when Baker began assaulting the victim.
After the altercation, Baker brandished a handgun, pointed it at the victim and threatened to kill him. A second victim entered the area, and Baker pointed the firearm at him as well. As Baker fled the barn, he fired a single shot into the air before leaving the property. No one was injured in the incident.
Delaware State Police responded to the scene with the Criminal Investigations Unit taking over the investigation. They discovered a spent shell casing on the property.
The next day, Baker called 911 and reported that he was located at a gas station on South Dupont Highway in Felton. Troopers and detectives responded and took Baker into custody without incident. The investigation revealed that Baker had given the firearm to a friend prior to his arrest. Detectives eventually recovered the firearm
Baker was taken to Troop 3, where he was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony; burglary first degree; carrying a concealed deadly weapon; aggravated menacing; reckless endangering; tampering with physical evidence; terroristic threatening; and offensive touching.
He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Department of Correction on a $116,600 cash bond.
