Mary Olivia “Libby” Dalious passed away peacefully on August 20, 2026, at her daughter’s home in Felton under the compassionate care of Delaware Hospice. She was 80.
Born on February 21, 1946, in Enterprise, Alabama, Mary led a life marked by dedication, warmth and creativity. Throughout her professional life, Mary dedicated herself to education. She served as a special education teacher for Indian River, Milford and Polytech School Districts as well as others. Her compassion and commitment touched the lives of countless students and colleagues, making a lasting impact within every school community she joined.
Mary was a woman of varied interests and boundless enthusiasm. She found delight in yard saleing and could often be found hunting for treasures on weekends. A passionate teacher, she cherished quiet moments with a good book. Her artistic spirit shined through in her painting and crafts, bringing color and happiness to all those around her.
Mary’s creativity extended beyond her crafts. Although she was never published, she penned several small volumes of children’s stories and some poems, sharing her insights and feelings with those close to her.
Among her fondest memories were the warmth of homemade soup prepared in her kitchen and the steadfast companionship of her dogs. She always had a special place in her heart for pets, especially Chihuahuas, who brought her comfort and joy.
A member of Calvery United Methodist Church in Milford, Mary’s faith guided her throughout her life. She was known for her wonderful sense of humor, bringing levity to any situation and brightening the days of family, friends and strangers alike.
The devoted wife of J. William “Bill” Dalious, Mary was as devoted mother to her son, Bart Dalious and significant other, Jennifer, and daughter, Beth Waishes-Tull and her husband, Keith. She was the loving sister Janet Lunceford. Mary’s legacy continues through her grandchildren: Eddie Waishes and significant other, Jocey; Nicole Dalious and Barton Dalious and their mother, Kim Dalious; Amanda Waishes and husband Cody; Harley Tull, Emily Johnson, Kinsley Voss and Lily Johnson. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren, including Little Eddie, Colton and Stetson. She is survived by brothers-in-law, Frank Watkins, Bo Watkins (Junie) and John Dalious (Paula).
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Smith Whitsett Carmichael and Hazel Hundley Carmichael as well as her sister, Patricia Carmichael. She was also preceded in death by her brothers-in-law, Lenny Dalious and Donald Dalious; sister-in-law Susie Shirey and mother-in-law, Martha Jane Watkins.
Mary Olivia Dalious will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Her generosity, wit and love for her family and community will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her memory will live on in the stories nad hearts of those she touched.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, September 5, 2026, at 12 PM at Calvery United Methodist Church, 301 Southeast Front Street, Milford.
