With just four games to go in the Milford boy’s lacrosse season, there were serious doubts as to whether the then 5-6 Bucs would qualify for the state tournament. Milford needed to go on a run to make it happen, they were under pressure and needed to respond to it. That is just what they did as they closed out the year with four consecutive wins, all of them impressive. As a result, Milford would earn the 11th seed and a meeting this past Wednesday at 6th seed Smyrna. Unfortunately for the Bucs, they would fall by a score of 14-6.
In a game which saw Milford had a hard time playing their best consistently, it was just too much for them to overcome against a quality opponent like Smyrna.
“We had a a hard time gaining and keeping momentum. The conditions were tough, but both teams had to deal with them. At the end of the day, it comes down to Smyrna just being the better team on the day.” Coach Blake Faulkner said.
Looking back on the season however, Faulkner was proud with how his team responded to a slow start to the season.
“We started 0-4, losing a few games that we wish we had back, leaving us with more questions than answers,” Faulkner said. “After spring break we really started to turn the tide and really finished strong to end the season, winning 9 out of 11 games to make the playoffs.”
Faulkner concluded “We had an incredible group of seniors and I am very appreciative of all the hard work they put in over the last four years, this was a very special team.”
