It is with profound sadness that we announce the tragic passing of Jacob Joseph Rinier, Jr., who left us on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at the tender age of 17.
Jacob was born on October 17, 2008, in Lewes, Delaware, the son of Nicole Joyce Kersic and the late Jacob Joseph Rinier, Sr. Jacob was a beloved son, grandson, brother and friend to many, whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of all who knew him.
Jacob was a straight-A student in his junior year at Sussex Tech High School where he was dedicated to his studies in the HVAC program. His hard work and passion for the field led him to earn several certificates, preparing him for a career he was eager to pursue. As well as his success in academics, Jacob held a successful part-time job at McDonald’s in Delmar, working since he was 14. He took great pride in his unmatched work ethic, having saved diligently to purchase his own car – an accomplishment that reflected his determination and ambition.
Jacob loved his kayak and fishing, camping and riding four-wheelers and dirt bikes. He loved hanging out with his close friends and playing his Xbox. His adventurous spirit was matched only by his faith in God and the deep love he had for his family.
In addition to his devoted mother, Nicole Kersic and her husband, Jacob’s stepfather, Cameron Burroughs, Jacob is survived by his siblings Jacee, Billy, Sophia, Landon; stepsiblings Aubrey and Noah; his grandmother Carol Palacia; his step-grandparents, Stacey and Wayne Burroughs; his great-grandmother Carolyn Buchanon. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of his friends and all who were fortunate to know him.
Along with his father, Jacob Sr., Jacob was preceded in death by grandfathers, James Kersic and Joseph Rinier along with a grandmother, Francine Smith.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, May 31, 2026, from 11:30 AM to 1 PM at Short Funeral Home, 13 East Grove Street, Delmar where a memorial service will begin at 1 PM. All arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
