Dozens of volunteers gathered throughout Milford on Saturday, April 18, for a community-wide cleanup effort aimed at improving local spaces and promoting environmental stewardship.
Residents, families, and local organizations came together early in the morning, equipped with gloves, trash bags, and tools, to tackle litter in parks, roadways, and public areas across the city. The annual cleanup, organized with support from local groups and civic leaders, focused on beautifying neighborhoods while encouraging community pride and responsibility.
Participants worked in teams to cover designated areas, collecting trash, clearing debris, and helping restore public spaces following the winter months. Volunteers of all ages took part, including students, community groups, and local businesses, highlighting a strong sense of collaboration throughout the event.
Organizers said the cleanup not only improves the appearance of the city but also helps protect local waterways and wildlife by reducing pollution. Milford’s proximity to the Mispillion River makes these efforts especially important, as litter and runoff can have lasting environmental impacts.
“This is about more than just picking up trash,” Michele Webb, chairperson of the event, said. “It’s about bringing people together and reminding everyone that small actions can make a big difference in our community.”
The event is a partnership between Downtown Milford Inc., the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Milford and the City of Milford. The three organizations contributed supplies and support for the event, while city officials assisted with logistics and disposal of collected waste. By the end of the day, volunteers had removed a significant amount of litter from streets and green spaces, leaving many areas visibly cleaner.
For many participants, the event was also an opportunity to connect with neighbors and give back to the community. Families worked side by side, and younger volunteers gained hands-on experience in environmental responsibility.
Events like the Milford Community Cleanup continue to play an important role in fostering civic engagement and maintaining the city’s appeal. Organizers hope the success of this year’s effort will inspire even more participation in the future.
As Milford continues to grow, community-driven initiatives such as the cleanup serve as a reminder that maintaining a clean and welcoming environment is a shared responsibility.
