The City of Milford announced changes to their solid waste pickup schedule as well as details on bulk and brush regulations. The city will no longer pick up yard waste, refuse or recycling on city observed holidays.
“If your scheduled collection falls on a holiday, your items will be collected the following day,” Economic Development and Community Engagement Director Lauren Swain said. “This is not a reduction in service. Pickup will take place one day later.”
According to the city’s recent newsletter, the following schedule will be followed:
- New Year’s Day – Refuse and Recycling – Friday, January 2
- MLK – Yard Waste – Tuesday, January 20
- President’s Day – Yard Waste – Tuesday, February 17
- Good Friday – Refuse and Recycling – Saturday, April 4
- Memorial Day – Yard Waste – Tuesday, May 26
- Juneteenth – Refuse and Recycling – Saturday, June 20
- Labor Day – Yard Waste – Tuesday, September 8
- Veteran’s Day – Refuse and Recycling – Thursday, November 12
- Thanksgiving – Refuse and Recycling – Saturday, November 28
- Christmas Eve and Christmas Day – Refuse and Recycling – Saturday, December 26
“It’s time for spring cleaning and we want to remind residents of the important guidelines regarding bulk and brush pickup,” Swain said.
To preschedule a collection, call the Customer Service office at 302-422-6616. Collections take place on Mondays that are not holidays and are limited, so Swain suggests scheduling early.
“Only place items out 24 hours before your scheduled pickup,” Swain said. “Unscheduled items will be tagged and billed. Residents are allowed two free collections per year, up to four cubic yards each. Additional collections are permitted but there will be a charge.”
The city accepts appliances, furniture, large cardboard boxes, barbecue grills and other items as part of the bulk pickup program. As for brush, they accept tree or shrub trimmings with branches up to three inches in diameter and four feet in length. Brush should be stacked with the butt end toward the street.
Do not block sidewalks or place items in the street. More information can be found on the City of Milford website.
