A Street Rehabilitation Contract, part of the Capital Improvement Plan budget, was approved by Milford City Council on Monday, March 9. The roads to be rehabilitated were approved during the 2023 Pavement Assessment with seven roads identified as having poor surfaces.
“The work will include ADA ramps, curbs, sidewalks, storm drain structures, pavement mill and overlay,” Public Works Director Willis Shafer said. “The project received five bids and Diamond Materials was the lowest bid at a contract price of $650,660.”
The roads that will be rehabilitated include Salevan Place, Northeast 9th Street, East Street, Eighth Street, Dixie Alley, Orchard Lane and Wilbur Street.
“This project will require additional oversight by a third party engineering firm to oversee field operations, conduct, inspect and assist with project management as well as quality control,” Shafer said. “This task will be conducted by KCI Technologies at a cost not to exceed 10 percent of the contract or $65,066.00. Due to the nature of this project, a five percent contingency is also recommended.”
With the project management and contingency added, the cost of street rehabilitation is estimated at $748,259. The request was approved by a vote of 7-0 as Councilman Danny Perez was absent.
