Desiray Anderson filed to run for the Ward 2 Milford City Council seat currently held by Councilwoman Lori Connor. Anderson is one of five vying for the seat after Connor chose not to run for re-election. She will face off against Kim Wills, Ron Mescola, Marianna S. “Nina” Pletcher and Michael D. Price, Sr.
“I decided to run for City Council now that we are empty nesters and I can focus on what I enjoy doing,” Anderson said. “I enjoy helping out in my community and I enjoy politics, so why not help b being the voice for my neighbors, I know that we all live busy lives and between work, raising a family and other obligations in life, it makes it hard for most people to attend the meetings. I have extra time now that my kids are grown. I am willing to listen to my neighbors and be the voice for them and what is best for Milford’s future.”
Anderson is a Delaware native, born and raised in Smyrna. She stated she has always had a connection to Milford since her grandmother lived in the town.
“When my wife and I were looking to buy our first home, we knew we wanted to move to Milford,” Anderson said. “We loved the town atmosphere, the way everyone seemed to know everyone, and how welcoming the whole community is.”
Anderson and her wife have two adult children, and their first granddaughter is due in July. Both women work for the United States Postal Service as letter carriers, are active in their union and assist with the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive that helps feed people I the community.
“We also love karaoke and trivia, so you have likely seen us around town,” Anderson said. “One of my biggest challenges in this campaign is that there are five different candidates running for Ward 2. Having that many people running for the same ward, I will need to make sure I get out to meet as many people from Ward 2 as possible. This is also the first time I have ever run for an elected position, so I am trying to figure everything out.”
Anderson stated that if anyone, whether in her ward or not, sees her out in town, feel free to come up and talk to her about what they want to see in the town.
The election is scheduled for Saturday, April 25 between 10 AM and 6 PM at the Public Works Building, 180 Vickers Drive, Milford.
