The Encouraging Development, Growth and Expansion (EDGE) Grant returned February 6 with the EDGE 2.0 version that was released in 2025. This is the Division of Small Business’ flagship funding program which has already distributed $9.1 million to 127 small businesses over the last six years.
The grant offers an entrepreneur track, awarding up to $400,000 that will be split among category winners. There is also a STEM track with up to $750,000 available that will be split among winners. There will be up to 18 winners in this round. The award amounts will be scaled based on the quality of the finalist’s pitch presentation.
Since the inception of EDGE, nine local businesses have received funding from the grant. In 2019, EZY Venture in Harrington was selected for a grant. The company is a woman-owned business that processes industrial hemp and extracts CBD oil. The grant was used to purchase the equipment necessary to extract and process the oil at scale, helping meet the growing demand for the project.
That same year, Dolce Bakery and Coffee Shop used their grant funding from EDGE to upgrade equipment and market new services. In 2021, Berry Patch in Lincoln, owned by Rodney and Yolonda Messick, used the funding to diversify their grain farm operation to incorporate a U-Pick Berry Farm. Working with their sons, Joshua and Jacob, the family added a growing system that is ideal for easy picking and handicap accessibility.
My Sister’s Fault was also a recipient in 2021. The Puerto Rican inspired bakery operated by Angie and Rous Robles, used EDGE grant funding to purchase new refrigeration and freezer equipment which will allow them the opportunity to complete more custom cake orders, hire more staff and extend their operating hours for special events.
Studio B transformed a former eye doctor’s office in Milford into a unique fusion of commerce and art, offering fast turnaround print-on-demand services as well as a community workspace. The grant funding they received in 2023 helped them purchase high-end tools and equipment as well as to create a professional website.
Also in 2024, G&R Campground in Houston, the oldest black-owned campground and RV park in the country, received EDGE grant funding that allowed them to make extensive improvements.
Archie, a subsidiary of the Parker Group who has an office in Milford, was also awarded an EDGE grant in 2024. Archie is pioneering “liquid real estate” – a unique model that gives home sellers the freedom to move forward immediately without sacrificing the value of their home. The EDGE Grant will accelerate Archie Home Intelligence – featuring a proprietary AI-powered Automated Valuation Model (AVM) that analyzes over 500 property-specific data points and hyperlocal market trends to achieve accuracy at levels not yet seen in the industry. This technology not only powers Archie’s seller experience but also creates a transparent, certainty-driven buying process where homes come fully inspected, move-in ready, and available to close in as little as 72 hours.
Along with Archie, Bayside Gymnastics was also awarded a grant in 2024. Bayside Gymnastics is in the process of building a new facility with a target opening date of January 2026. The EDGE grant award will offset a portion of the $150,000 multi-use equipment which is needed for the expansion of their special needs, gymnastics, ninja warrior, cheer, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) programs. It will enable them to increase their customer base and improve the overall quality and depth of the programs offered.
In 2025, Juniper Modern Market received an EDGE grant. Juniper Modern Market is a community-based gourmet grab-and-go cafe, grocery and marketplace planning to open in downtown Milton, January 2025. The company will use EDGE funding to purchase commercial-grade equipment systems including coolers, ovens, grab-and-go hot equipment, a dishwasher, juicer, espresso machine, and extra ovens.
