Westside Diner, a staple for many in the community, suffered damage inside their building on December 29 when a gas fire began behind the grills and fryers. Most of the damage was smoke-related, even though the fire burned all night. As a result, Westside has been closed and employees unable to work.
“First of all, I would like to thank everyone for their kind words and support during this time from staff to customers to my fellow city officials,” Madula Kalesis, owner of Westside, said on social media the day after the fire. “A lot of you asked if there is a way to help staff while they are waiting for us to open up. Miss Jeanie Morgan has taken the lead on this as her and her husband have a non-profit that typically are doing the benefit for blessing families at Christmas.”
In an effort to continue raising funds to support the staff, a fundraiser is planned on Saturday, January 31 from 4 to 8 PM at the Carlisle Fire Company. The fundraiser is being put together by Dave Morgan’s Music Ministry and Friends as well as Paige’s Kindness Project.
A gift card wreath worth over $500 in gift cards on a beautiful wreath donated by Ivins Florist as well as a Thomas Kinkade “The Village Lighthouse” numbered painting, including a certificate of authenticity will be raffled at the event. The painting has a value over $900.
Raffle tickets are $10 each or $20 for three. They can be purchased by Venmo to Jean Morgan (@mommomto3; last four 2140) or by calling Paige’s Kindness Project at 302-542-3762. Raffle tickets are also available at participating businesses and through volunteers.
There will also be a quarter auction at the event and raffle tickets can be purchased there.
Carlisle Fire Company is located at 615 Northwest Front Street in Milford.
