With snow predicted Sunday, January 25, the City of Milford is preparing for the worst. According to the National Weather Service, snow is likely with the highest chances later in the morning and afternoon. Although exact totals are not known at this time, the models are in sync that there will be snowfall, possibly combined with rain, sleet and freezing rain, on Sunday.
“Members of our Public Works, Electric and Parks and Recreation Departments will be clearing snow from city roadways Saturday through Monday,” Lauren Swain, Economic Development and Community Affairs Director, said. “We’ll provide regular updates on social media throughout the storm.”
The city asks residents to be mindful of road conditions and snowplow drivers. If snowfall exceeds three inches, vehicles must be moved off city streets. Swain suggests moving vehicles to downtown city parking lots located throughout town. Snow and ice must be cleared from sidewalks within 24 hours after the snowfall ends.
“No parking is permitted on DelDOT snow route after one hour of snowfall,” Swain said. “Snow routes include Northeast and Northwest Front Streets, Southeast Fron Street, Lakeview Avenue along with North and South Walnut Streets.”
The city provided an image that showed how to remove snow from driveways to help prevent snow from being pushed back by plows.
“It is also important to prepare for possible power outages,” Swain said. “Test generators before the snow begins to fall and charge all electronic devices. Identify your home’s water shut off valve. If you use electronically powered medical devices should have backup plans in place.”
