
Delaware Birding Weekends announced their excursions for January with several options to view waterfowl in their natural habitat. The weekends begin with water taxi tours in Baltimore and end with birding on the Harriett Tubman Byway.
On January 10, join Baltimore guides to search for waterfowl, gulls and raptors on the Patapsco River. The group meets at the Port Covington Marina for an afternoon cruise on the Baltimore Water Taxi from 2 to 3:30 PM. Additional cruises are planned for February 7, March 7 and March 21. The Winter Delmarva Dogfish BirdINNg Weekend is planned for January 16 through 18, sponsored by Dogfish Inn and Dogfish Head. This is the 11th year for the event where you can get great looks at waterfowl, seabirds, shorebirds, raptors and even seals. A recent event found 88 species, including 25 species of waterfowl. Notable discoveries were Great Cormorant, Purple Sandpiper and Razorbill as well as Harbor and Gray Seals.
Delaware Birding Weekends is excited to partner again with the Dogfish Inn, located in historic downtown Lewes with stunning views of the canal and a short walk to many shops and restaurants. Dogfish Inn is the basecamp for the event where attendees will find an offbeat style, quality and craft in each of the 16 rooms.

On January 17, captains and crews at the Fisherman’s Wharf in Lewes will hold “Scoters and Seals,” a cruise on the Delaware Bay where it is possible to see an Iceland Gull, White-Winged Scoter, Common Eider, Great Egret along with seals. Unfortunately, this cruise is full, but another is planned for February 14 and February 28. On Saturday, January 29 from 1 to 5 PM, Delmarva Birding Weekends will offer Birding the Harriet Tubman Byway in Dorchester County, Maryland. During their guided, self-drive tour, attendees will learn about the life and times of the famed freedom seeker and human rights activist known as “The Moses of Her People,” Harriet Tubman. The route will travel through farms and Chesapeake Bay marshes. Dorchester County is home to Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, offering some of the best birding and Bald Eagle watching on America’s Eastern Seaboard.
