Mary Fitzcharles and her daughter Christina lost everything in a fire on December 29, 2025. According to Mary, the fire began with a faulty wire under her mobile home near a pump box. Although the electric and water had been turned off to the pump as it had frozen and cracked, a wire caused the fire that burned everything.
“My daughter and I escaped as did our dog and cat,” Mary said. “We lost everything else. As of tomorrow, we will be roomless, so we are on our way to social services to see how they can help us. Right now, we each have one pair of shoes, and we are sharing my boots.”
Mary stated that when she got there, her daughter was in an ambulance with no shoes, so she gave her the ones she was wearing.
One of the most urgent needs currently is a place for the two women and their pets to stay. There have been two GoFundMe’s set up for the women. One has a goal of $20,000 that will cover the cost of a down payment on a new mobile home and the costs of removing the one that was destroyed. Although they are currently okay with clothing thanks to the generosity of others, they are in need of pet food.
Another GoFundMe was set up with a goal of $2,500 for basic needs and to cover the cost of a place to stay until they can raise enough to replace their mobile home.
“That one was set up by Theresa who belongs to an organization called Rockstar Resellers,” Mary said. “She did it because I have been with them for quite some time and she said we were one of them.”
The biggest issue the women are facing other than finding a temporary place to stay is getting the old mobile home removed. The damage is too extensive for it to be towed and there are household items that are completely charred.
“We really need people who specialize in dealing with burnout shells,” Mary said. “My sister and brother have also stepped up and offered to help as much as they can. We do have two beds and a table that a friend is storing for us, but we don’t have a place for people to bring us things right now.”
In addition to the GoFundMe’s, donations can also be sent via Venmo to MaryFleming-Fitzcharles; Cashapp to $MaryFFitzcharles; Paypal to @MaryFlemingFitzcharl.
