Milford Public Library has many interesting programs planned throughout the month of January. Programs are designed for all ages, from small children to adults.
On Saturday, January 3 at 3 PM, the library will offer CPR basics, a lifesaving seminar that will also include details on how to use an AED as well as how to help someone who is choking. The program is in partnership with CRP Delmarva LLC.
On Monday, January 5 at 11 AM, the Department of Labor will be at the library to offer assistance in gaining employment or enrolling in school or training. A computer will be available for residents to create a job link account, assist with job searches, and connect with other programs offered by DOL.
Toddlers and caregivers are invited to a special Toddler Time on Tuesday, January 6 at 10:30 AM. The session begins with a singing circle and ends with sensory bins, musical instruments or toddler-friendly toys.
That same day at 5:30 PM, the Puzzle Club will meet where children over the age of six can complete a 300-piece puzzle. Once it is finished, it will be displayed in the Children’s Library. At 4 PM, teens can participate in a Tea Tasting Tournament in celebration of National Tea Month. Teens will blindly taste a variety of teas and determine which is Milford’s favorite.
Enjoy a cozy winter night by making constellation embroidery. This teen event will be held Thursday, January 8 at 5 PM. All materials are provided.
On Saturday, January 10 at 10 AM, the Helping Hands Community Event will offer a collection of free resources provided by Milford Advocacy for the Homeless. That day the library will also visit Parson Thorne Mansion at 10 AM, taking a tour of one of the oldest homes in Milford. The mansion is open the second Saturday of each month from 10 AM to 2 PM.
At 1 PM that day, the Milford Museum will continue their American History Series with “Explosions of the DuPont Powder Mills,” giving insight into the almost 300 explosions at the mills on the Brandywine Creek.
January 10 is a busy day at the library as children can stop in to create a Vision Board all day. Kick off the new year by creating a vision board with all the supplies provided by the library.
The Cookbook Book Club will meet on Monday, January 12 at 4:30 PM. Each month the group selects a cookbook, and each participant selects a recipe to prepare and share at the following meeting.
On Tuesday, January 13 at 3 PM the library will perform a very important feat. It appears a penguin needs a warm and cozy igloo and they need help. As part of an Igloo Construction STEM project, children can build an igloo using a cup and marshmallows.
Cardio Drumming will be held on Wednesday, January 14 at 2:30 PM with Drums Alive, a fun, high-energy, cardio drumming class suitable for anyone. It is suggested that participants bring a bottle of water.
A Writer Workshop is planned for January 14 at 4 PM which allows teens to focus on their latest creations while brainstorming with fellow writers. Refreshments are provided.
On Thursday, January 15 at 3 PM you can turn bags into bathmats for the homeless. Join the library in gathering plastic bags and turning them into “plarn” or plastic yarn, crocheting and giving the mats to the homeless. Statewide, this program has given more than 400 mats to neighbors in need. At 4 PM that day, teens can stop by the library and enjoy a slice of pizza while talking about anything they are reading as part of the Pizza and Paperbacks program.
Appreciate a Dragon Day will take place on Friday, January 16 at 3 PM with teens able to make dragon eyes, sew dragon plushies and decorate dragon eggs. The library will provide all materials.
Anyone who is a Percy Jackson fan will want to attend the Percy Jackson Party on Saturday, January 17 at Noon. There will be themed refreshments, a scavenger hunt, trivia and “finding your parental deity.” Crafts and more will be part of the party but staff would like to know if there are any allergies that they need to accommodate. The party is open to everyone ages 8 to 18.
Crayola Creations invites children to bring their broken crayons and enjoy playing with different art machines on Tuesday, January 20 at 3 PM. Attendees will be using a marker airbrush, crayon melter and more.
Teens can make their very own beanie at the library on Thursday, January 22. Beanies take about 20 minutes to create, and no knitting knowledge is required. Times available are 4 to 4:30nPM; 4:20 to 4:40 PM; 4:40 to 5 PM; 5 to 5:20 PM; 5:20 to 5:40 PM; 5:40 to 6 PM; 6 to 6:20 PM and 6:20 to 6:40 PM.
For those who are looking to downsize in 2026, the library is offering “Downsizing Basics” on Friday, January 23 and again on January 30 at 3 PM. The program will provide helpful tools and tips about how to simplify space from someone with personal experience with downsizing.
The LEGO Club will meet Tuesday, January 27 at 3 PM, a group that is designed for children six and older.
Chair Yoga takes place every Monday and Wednesday at 3:15 PM, but the library asks that attendees register for each class individually. Crafts and Coffee take place on the first Monday of each month at 5 PM.
On January 29 through 31, the library will offer their $10 bag of book sale. The library provides the bag, and you can select the books.
To register for any program at the Milford Library, visit their Event Calendar and click on the program you wish to attend. Some programs have limited space and require registration. If you are a no-show or fail to cancel registration 24 hours prior, you will be unable to attend a registered event for one month.
