Milford School District announced this week that 20 educators across the district were named as recipients grants through the 8th Annual Hertrich’s Cash for Class program. The grants total almost $20,000 that will be used to support innovative, student-centered projects.
“It is important to us that we strive to be a pillar in our community, and one of the best ways to do that is by supporting our local school districts,” Fred Hertrich IV, said. “Our educators are doing incredible work, and we are proud to support projects that directly benefit students.”
Hertrich’s Cash for Class program recognizes eductors who go above and beyond to create meaningful learning experiences. The awarded projects span all grade levels and focus on literacy, technology, hands-on learning, student engagement, wellness and community connection.
The projects that received the award were Learning with Technology at Banneker Elementary. The teacher is Daniel Huffman. Also at Banneker, Kirkpatrick’s Kinder Crew, led by Mackenzie Kirkpatrick. Janet Long created PreK Exploration at Banneker as well.
At Lulu Ross, Tenesha Duffy received a grant for her Who Runs the World Girls Club.
Christopher Deming’s program was String Art, Louise Holleger’;s project was PB&J Community Service and the School Garden Project was led by Brandy Ward. These were all projects at Milford Central Academy.
At Milford Middle School, an award went to Hands on Learning with Heather Craig-Evans, Independent Daily Reading by Jamie Henry, Learning English with April Herr and Engaging Middle Schoolers Through Discourse by Carrie Holleger. Other Milford Middle School projects that receive awards were Buc Buddies School Garden, led by March Johns, Learning with Ana Ledezma Jiminez, Love to Learn ML led by Lissete Perez and Bring our Books to Life, created by Ally Raiche.
Dana Dill’s project Beans and Boxes received an award for Mispillion Elementary School as did Haley Pagden’s Flexible Seating for Learning project. Erin Raniszewski’s project, Comfy & Clean: Our Flexible Learning Space, was also awarded for Mispillion Elementary. Along with Margaret Sollie’s Buc’s Connect project.
At Morris Early Childhood Center, Morgan Fry’s project entitled Mrs. Fry’s Kindergarten Literacy Enrichment program was awarded.
To qualify for Cash for Class, educators had to be educators in a public or private school system within Hertrich-designated districts. Funde projects must directly benefit students and all grant funds must be used for the specific project submitted.
“Milford School District is grateful for Hertrich’s continued partnership and commitment to public education,” Trish Gerken, Public Information Officer, said. “Support from community partners like Hertrich helps ensure that educators have the resources they need to inspire learning, creativity and growth for every student.”
