As Delaware’s population ages and the demand for senior health care grows, ChristianaCare is stepping up by expanding and adapting services across the state to better serve older adults. For Milford residents, recent developments mean more access, convenience, and senior-specific care.
In early 2025, ChristianaCare opened a new primary care facility in Milford, located at Halpern Plaza, 701 N. DuPont Boulevard, bringing family and senior medicine directly into the heart of the community. This facility offers comprehensive primary care for adults of all ages, including preventive screenings, chronic disease management, immunizations, physicals, and women’s health.
Importantly for older residents, Milford’s office began offering the specialized “My65+” program this spring, a service tailored for people aged 65 and older. My65+ focuses on medication management, chronic-disease oversight, annual Medicare visits, and extra consultation time.  According to ChristianaCare leadership, My65+ at Milford is part of a broader effort to make high-quality, senior-specific primary care more accessible across southern Delaware.
Milford seniors also benefit from other ChristianaCare offerings targeted to older adults, including the statewide “Senior Health” services. These range from outpatient wellness programs to in-home support and chronic-condition management.
Particularly significant is the expansion of Swank Center for Memory Care services, which support individuals with memory disorders and their families. While Swank’s main sites are outside Milford, its services, including assessments, care coordination, education, and 24/7 support, are available for Delaware seniors nearby. For seniors who prefer or need care at home, ChristianaCare HomeHealth remains a major resource, offering skilled nursing, rehabilitation, therapy, and social-work services to help manage chronic conditions or recovery, helping older adults in Milford remain independent and supported.
ChristianaCare’s new Milford practice was born out of growing demand in southern Delaware for accessible primary and senior care. In Sussex County, approximately 30% of the population is over 65, with that number growing. The population over 65 was 73,050 in a recent count, and the county’s older adult population is growing faster than the state average, with a significant number of people moving to the county. Projections show that the percentage of residents over 60 will increase to almost 34% by 2040.
By transforming a former retail space into a modern 10,000-square-foot clinic, ChristianaCare has invested in facilities equipped with exam rooms, on-site labs, accessible design features (like fall-assessment rooms), and even virtual-care technology, all designed to support older adults’ needs.
With My65+ and related senior-care programs, ChristianaCare aims to reduce travel and wait-time burdens for the growing older adult population, offering deeper and more personalized care, and support long-term health and well-being.
For many older residents in Milford, especially those 65 and over, these changes mean easier access to care, more attention, and better support without having to drive far or travel hours. Families and caregivers will find it simpler to manage appointments, coordinate care, and tap into memory-care or home-health services. It also represents an investment in long-term wellness such as preventive care, chronic-disease management, and coordinated support designed to help older adults maintain their independence and enjoy a better quality of life for longer.
