Bayhealth has recently announced a new way for patients to manage their healthcare more easily and conveniently. On November 17, Bayhealth upgraded their text messaging, or Short Message System (SMS), to increase Hello World which will allow two-way texting powered by Epic.
The new system connects the electronic health record system and MyChart. This will allow patients to receive important text messages through mobile devices and in some cases, to send text responses to stay updated or take action on healthcare.
Once someone opts into the new system, they can receive text messages related to their care such as confirming or canceling appointments, check in before a visit, pay a bill or sign up for a payment plan or refill a prescription.
Those who already receive text messages from Bayhealth or affiliated medical practices like Dedicated to Women, First State Infectious Diseases, Kids and Teens Pediatrics of Dover, Eranga Cardiology and CNRMI 2.0, will receive a welcome message. All others will need to opt-in.
To opt-in, simply text YES to 96351. Patients can also log into MyChart online and set up customized notifications in the Communication Preferences under Menu. Patients may be asked at a visit if they would like to activate text messages, or they can ask at an appointment for assistance in signing up.
Adjustments to the texts received can be made through MyChart and patients can text STOP to end messages. Those who may need assistance can also text HELP. Those who are caregivers who want to receive text messages related to the care of that person can do so by making sure both are signed up on MyChart and that they have proxy accesses on their account. This applies to adults and children aged 12 or older. An email invitation for friends or family to have MyChart access can be generated through the Sharing Hub option on the menu.
