At a recent meeting, Milford City Council approved a request from the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) to donate 325.2 feet of land and a temporary construction easement at Northeast Front Street and Rehoboth Boulevard, DelDOT plans to add shoulders and a multi-use path in the area.
“DelDOT will add shoulders and a shared-use path on the north side of the roadway that will connect out to the overpass improvements that were convened as part of that project,” Rob Pierce, City Planner, said. “DelDOT is requesting the donation of land as the project will cross a property that is owned by the city that contains our well facility just to the east and the old plant there on Northeast Front Street. This would basically be providing the right-of-way there and allowing the improvements to be constructed.”
According to a memo provided in the council packet, DelDOT acknowledged that the city could request compensation for the land, but they were asking council to waive compensation in order to reduce the project costs.
The temporary easement at 707 NE Front Street would give DelDOT right-of-way over, under and across the property as part of the multi-use path and shoulder project. DelDOT would pay the city one dollar for this easement.
Council voted separately on three measures related to the request. The first was the temporary easement, the second was the right-of-entry agreement and the third the purchase agreement. All three passed with a vote of seven to zero as Councilwoman Lori Connor was absent at the meeting.
There were no details on when the project would begin or be completed b DelDOT.
